Wenger honoured by UEFA for Champions League contribution

In what comes as a nice change to being banned by UEFA, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, along with Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti, were honoured by Michel Platini for their contributions to the Champions League. Jose Mourinho will receive his regonition at a later date.

The three managers were presented with a plaque and a framed picture which was to honour their longevity on the competition which is done to mirror UEFA’s policy of honouring players who reach 100 caps in international football.

The awards were presented as the trio have taken charge of more than 100 games in the Champions League. Sir Alex Ferguson managed 202, Arsene Wenger has so far been in charge of 152 while Ancelotti has been at the helm for 117.

The awards took place at the opening of the annual UEFA Elite Club Coaches Forum in Nyon which opened on Wednesday.

Arsène Wenger (Arsenal FC), Neil Lennon (Celtic FC), Antonio Conte (Juventus), Manuel Pellegrini (Manchester City FC), Paulo Fonseca (FC Porto), Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid CF), Laurent Blanc (Paris Saint-Germain FC), Jens Keller (FC Schalke 04), Mircea Lucescu (FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Miroslav Djukić (Valencia CF), Murat Yakin (FC Basel 1893), Jorge Jesus (SL Benfica), Rafael Benítez (SSC Napoli), Vladimir Petković (SS Lazio), Kurban Berdyev (FC Rubin Kazan) and André Villas-Boas (Tottenham Hotspur FC).
